Natalie Gulbis was in Australia for the Australian Open and was one of only two players to be payed an appearance fee (the other was Karrie Webb who ended up winning). Unfortunately Gulbis played very poorly and she tied for 48th at 14 over par. However, she has a few days to work on her game before the ANZ Ladies Masters begins at the Gold Coast on Thursday.

Even though she didn’t play this week, Natalie Gulbis moved up one place to return to the top 20 in the Rolex World Rankings.

Natalie Gulbis is one of the hottest stars on the LPGA tour and has her own calendar and reality tv show. However, without a single tour victory, many are drawing comparisons between her and Anna Kournikova.

However, she has no less than 20 top ten finishes in the past two years and quite a number of top five finishes as well. I don’t think there’s any real doubt as to whether or not she’ll win a tournament. The questions are “How soon?” and “How many will she win?”

After a truly brilliant 2005 season, it was going to be tough for Natalie Gulbis to top her performance in 2006. Last year Natalie had a good year although it was nowhere near as good as her 2005 season.

Some of her statistical highlights included:

• 6 top five finishes including a 2nd place finish
• 7 top ten finishes in 26 starts
• 16th on the money list with making $693,968
• 9th (tied) in birdies
• 8th in greens hit
• 9th in scoring average

I’m not sure what to make of her putting… On one hand, she was 51st in putting with 29.66 putts per round, but was tied for 11th in GIR putting (1.77 average). The second number is pretty good, but the first number is not so great.
